- Women’s Walks Wednesday Nights–6:45pm - This is an update to say that WED walks will now start at 6:45 pm, effective immediately. We had fun this week with our three dog companions and bushwhacking straight up the summit, well, to the reservoir anyway. Women are invited to a post hike campfire at my place (old scout camp) on Wednesday, 9.9. I'll provide a campfire, Jiffy Pop for over the fire, cold beer (feel free to bring other snacks and drinks that you prefer). Contact Dorothy, to.e@comcast.net if you plan to attend.
- Aggressive Doberman – Regarding the recent dog bite of a cyclist a few weeks ago, we are still unable to pinpoint the owner of a Doberman who seems to be getting loose near East Lake Desire and the boat launch. There is a case #7031 open on this particular dog and residents are urged to contact animal control at 206-708-4947 if there are any further issues. Anyone who calls is free to remain anonymous. For questions contact Ron, rpd151@hotmail.com.
- Kent School District Update– The Kent Education Association voted to authorize a strike against the Kent School District on 8/26. This is the first strike in the history of the Kent School District, Washington’s 4th largest district. Many KEA members interviewed by various media outlets highlighted the key reasons for the strike, including the issues of time, workload (esp. class size), and compensation. Local schools are scheduled to start on 8/31, but may be delayed due to the strike. For more details, here are a few websites. http://www.kent.k12.wa.us, www.KentSchools.org, or KEA blog http://kenteducationassociation.wordpress.com/
